Bio

Joel Feldman is Professor Emeritus at School of Art and Design, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he ran the Printmaking program. He has received national recognition for large-scale woodcuts, which are represented in prestigious collections, such  as the Allan Stone Collection, The Brooklyn Museum, The New York Public Library, and the Mary and Leigh Block Galleries at Northwestern University. He has held fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts and has done numerous residences and over 75 visiting artist lectures and workshops. In recent years he has turned to photography producing staged photographs in his “Annotated Landscapes” series. In 2009 he completed a residency with Three Shadows Photography Center in Beijing, which resulted in a digital installation that has been shown in Los Angeles, Louisville and Lexington. In addition to working in prints and photography, he also creates sculptures, pen drawings, colleges and artist’s books. His current work involves collaborations with a photographer Frank Doring, a writer Paula Lee, and a bookmaker Renee Oschwald.
